Let me preface this by saying that this post is purely for fun and the items listed here are all (except one) dangerous and deadly if misused or handled inappropriately. Be responsible, take these tools seriously.
I’m a huge fan of zombie apocalypse movies and the ongoing AMC drama, The Walking Dead. Sometimes, when I watch those shows, I find myself thinking “what weapon would I use” in that situation? Negan has the baseball bat, Michonne has the katana, Daryl carries a crossbow and Rick carries a trusty Colt Python.
Well, in reality, I’d probably opt for an automatic weapon if one were available, but here I’m working on the assumption that firearms are out of reach. So this is a list of melee weapons. What would be your weapon of choice?
The trusty Lousiville Slugger bat has been in production since 1885. Made from the finest, toughest ash wood, this bat would quickly become your friend in the event of a zombie breakout.
The Cobra System Self Cocking Pistol Tactical Crossbow (model K-8025) is made of compressed fiberglass, has an 80-pound draw weight and a firing speed of 165 FPS (feet per second). Which means it could blow the head off a walker at close range.
The bow's self-cocking mechanism shortens reload time, allowing you to fire off more shots quickly. In civilian life, the bow is used for small game hunting and target practice.
This 100% battery powered, 18 gauge nail gun could be an interesting alternative to conventional firearms. Just got to find a way to charge that pesky battery...
The katana is the ultimate in badass weaponry when it comes to close quarter zombie combat - as demonstrated by Michonne in The Walking Dead.
This particular blade is a fully handmade Japanese Samurai Katana Sword, full tang, sharp edge, and functional with a 28" blade and 10.6" handle. The wooden handle is wrapped with ray skin and black cotton cord.
The Tactical Tomahawk is lightweight and can be carried all day without developing muscle fatigue. It has a wide, upswept axe blade for maximum zombie slashing potential. The secondary edge on the back side of the head is specially sharpened on both edges for a cutting and hooking attack.
The blade is made of black oxide coated stainless steel and measures 8 inches in length. The handle is paracord wrapped and uses 30% fiberglass reinforced nylon.
The Dark Nexus throwing knives are made of stainless steel with handles wrapped in green nylon cord. These aerodynamic bad boys would be a weapon of last resort, for use in only the trickiest of walker entanglements, but the 7.5 inches blades could easily get you out of trouble.
So you're out of ammo, no melee weapons in sight, the only thing you have is that old green ugly zombie Christmas sweater that your aunt gave you. Don the sweater and pray that the walkers reel from its repugnance!
Granted, a pitch fork is not the ideal companion when you're out in the wild and a zombie horde is coming your way...buuuut the 4 diamond pointed steel tines and 30-inch hardwood handle offer strength and durability that could fend off a good few of those pesky walkers.
An interesting melee option. The claw hammer could certainly do some damage, but using it would mean getting a little too up close and personal with walkers for my liking. On the other hand, it could be put to good use for other tasks, like hammering in nails 🙂
